The letting agent gave keys to my home to someone without my consent. What can I do?Beta*
Your landlord, access and privacy
Private renting in England since the Renters' Rights Act 2025, unless the question says otherwise. General information, not legal advice.
Handing out keys so someone can get into your home without your agreement breaches your right to quiet enjoyment. If it was done to pressure you, it may also be harassment. Ask in writing who has keys and why, and ask for them back. If you feel unsafe, ask for the locks to be changed. Complain to the agent first. If that fails, complain to its redress scheme (The Property Ombudsman or the Property Redress Scheme), which can award compensation. If anyone actually went in or took anything, report it to the police too.
