My boiler has been broken for weeks. Should my landlord give me heaters?Beta*

Repairs, damp and mould
Private renting in England since the Renters' Rights Act 2025, unless the question says otherwise. General information, not legal advice.

Heating and hot water are repairs the landlord must keep working, and in cold weather a broken boiler should be treated as urgent. There isn't a specific rule that says "provide heaters", but asking for them is reasonable while you wait for a delayed repair, and most landlords will. If you have to run electric heaters or go elsewhere to wash, keep a record of the extra costs, because you can ask for them back along with a rent reduction for the time you went without. If the repair isn't done promptly, report it to the council's environmental health team. A home without adequate heating can be a serious hazard.
