Can my landlord evict me for complaining about repairs or reporting them to the council?Beta*
Not simply for that. Since section 21 "no-fault" notices ended on 1 May 2026, a landlord in England can only seek possession on a legal ground, such as selling, moving in or serious rent arrears, and has to prove it in court. Complaining or contacting environmental health isn't a ground. If a landlord claims they are selling or moving in soon after you complain, keep a record of the timing. If they don't sell or move in, they can't re-let for 12 months, and misusing those grounds can lead to fines. Harassment or threats in response to a complaint should be reported to the council's tenancy relations officer.
