I gave my notice to the letting agent. Does that count if they didn't pass it on to the landlord?Beta*
Notices, leaving and eviction
Private renting in England since the Renters' Rights Act 2025, unless the question says otherwise. General information, not legal advice.
Usually yes. If the agent manages the tenancy for the landlord, or is the address the tenancy agreement gives for notices, giving notice to the agent normally counts as giving it to the landlord. The agent failing to pass it on is the agent's problem, not yours. To be safe, give notice in writing, keep proof of when it was sent, and copy it to the landlord's own address if you have one. If you are then charged rent after your notice ended, complain to the agent and to its redress scheme.
