Could the previous tenant or the landlord still have access to my smart lock or heating app?Beta*

Your landlord, access and privacy
Private renting in England since the Renters' Rights Act 2025, unless the question says otherwise. General information, not legal advice.

It's worth checking on move-in day. Ask the landlord or agent to confirm in writing that all codes, digital keys and app access for any smart lock, keypad, alarm or doorbell camera have been reset, and that old tenants' profiles have been removed. Smart thermostats and heating hubs can stay linked to the landlord's or the last tenant's account. They should be unlinked so you control your own heating, and so nobody else can watch when you're home. A camera or device that records inside your home without your agreement is a privacy problem, and you can ask for it to be disabled.
