Can I get a copy of everything my landlord or letting agent holds about me?Beta*

Your landlord, access and privacy
Private renting in England since the Renters' Rights Act 2025, unless the question says otherwise. General information, not legal advice.

Yes. Under UK data protection law you can make a subject access request to a letting agent, or to a landlord running a business, asking for copies of the personal information they hold about you. That includes notes, emails, inspection reports, your rent ledger and references. It's normally free, and they must reply within one month. It's useful when you are disputing arrears, a deposit or a complaint. If they don't respond, or they share your financial details or references with other people such as your housemates without good reason, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
