I've been sent an arrears warning but I've paid my rent. What should I do?Beta*

Rent and rent increases
Private renting in England since the Renters' Rights Act 2025, unless the question says otherwise. General information, not legal advice.

Don't ignore it, even if you know it's wrong. Ask the landlord or agent in writing for a full rent statement, and send them bank statements showing each payment and the date it cleared. Mistakes are common when payments are split, made by Universal Credit, or arrive a day after the due date. Ask them to correct their records and confirm in writing that you aren't in arrears. This matters because arrears can be used as a reason to evict, so the record needs putting straight early. If you have been charged twice for something, such as a repair the landlord already paid for, ask for it to be refunded the same way.
