Web page data scrubber

Take your details out of a saved web page before you send it to anyone
If you are sending us a page from a court or complaint service so we can build it into one of our workspaces, run it through here first. This strips out the answers you typed, the tracking, the images and the reference numbers, and it shows you every single change on screen before you download anything, so you can see your details have gone rather than take our word for it. The file never leaves your computer. It is read and rewritten in your browser. There is no upload, no server and no copy kept.

1  Choose the saved pages

Saved with Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on a Mac) as “Webpage, complete”. You can pick several at once. Only the .html file is needed — the folder saved alongside it can stay where it is.

No files chosen yet

2  Check what it will take out

All of these are on to start with. Turn one off only if you know you need what it removes — for us to rebuild a page, none of it is needed.

3  Scrub, and watch it happen

Every change is listed below as it is made: what it was, and what it is now. Read it before you go near the download.

4  Download

These files are not zipped, on purpose. You get them back loose so you can open them and read them yourself before you send them on. You should not have to take our word for it that your details are gone. Zip them up yourself once you are happy — right-click the folder, Send to, Compressed (zipped) folder.
Nothing to download yet.
What this cannot do. It works on the page as it was saved. If your browser saved a folder of images and scripts alongside the .html file, that folder is untouched — send only the .html file, or check the folder yourself. It also cannot know that an unusual word in the page text is your surname or your street, so read the finished page before you send it. The safest habit is still the simplest one: save the page before you type anything into it. An empty form has nothing in it to take out.
